Deep bite (increased overbite),  is a relatively common dental condition, and is caused by over-eruption of the upper and lower front teeth.  Orthodontic treatment of deep bite is justified because of the long-term risk of  stripping of the gum attachment from the inside surface of the upper teeth.  Deep bite may also accelerate wear from tooth grinding habits. Orthodontic correction is most easily achieved during active jaw growth i.e. during childhood.  The condition is treatable in adulthood but may be less successful or may require jaw surgery. The following examples of corrective orthodontic treatment by Dr Charles Daniels are chosen to illustrate certain forms of treatment and the limitations of certain treatment choices and potential treatment problems.
